Autograph manuscript notes made August 1923 through August 1924 while wandering in Europe as a young man. Fly leaf inscribed "Manuscript von Erik." Includes his thoughts on life and philosophy, and includes original poetry. Also with: typescript carbon volume (with autograph revisions), "Hoch steht auf tief: eine gedankenreihe. Erik Homburger," a reworking of the autograph journal text, including some transcription; a "Writer's forward" in English; and "Geplantes Vorwort" in German.

Erik Erikson (1902-1994) was an American psychoanalyst, educator, and author. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany to Danish parents who separated before his birth, but he grew up in Karlsruhe, Germany. He used his stepfather’s last name, Homburger, until the late 1930s. In 1930 he married Joan Mowat Serson, a Canadian dancer and artist. In 1933 they immigrated from Vienna to the United States.
